Director’s Fellow Shaka Senghor at his memoir launch party at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History last night. It was amazing to see him interact directly with young boys who are growing up in Detroit, encouraging them with words of wisdom not to make the same mistakes he did. When one boy asked him: “What is your motivation (for your current work)?” Shaka replied without skipping a beat: “My motivation? I’m looking at it right now. It’s young brothers like you.”
Shaka’s memoir is incredibly candid and powerful. Read more about Shaka’s book.
